Donohue and Johnson Star in Grange 5k


There was a very big turnout for the North Sligo AC Grange Good Friday 5k, a big number of families came out and supported this fundraising event in aid of victims of the earthquake in Syria and Turkey which happened 9 weeks ago.

Francis Donohue South Sligo AC the all ireland schools cross country champion was a very convincing winner of the race in a time of 16 mins 18 secs he was followed home by Tiernan McManus Enniskillen 17m 17 sec and Lucas Lyons North Leitrim took the 3rd spot in 17m 28 sec.

Mari Johson Sligo AC a recent silver medalist in the world masters 8k crosscountry in Poland had over 100 metres to spare when winning this 5k in fine style in a good time of 19 min 12 sec. Sarah Kelly Sligo AC finished 2nd in 19 min 40 sec with Sarah Mulvaney Kelly North Leitrim finishing 3rd in 19m 46 sec.

Peter Gallagher N Sligo won the over 40 in 18m 3 sec, Leo Donlon N Sligo 2nd in 19m 26 sec and Declan Nugent took the 3rd spot in 19m 26 sec.

Katriona Finnegan Tireragh won the womens over 40 in 24m 18 sec in 2nd position was Marita McMorrow N Sligo 24m 38 sec and Yolanda Gallagher MSC Tri club 3rd in 25m 29 sec.

Patrick Trimble The Rosses Donegal took first spot in  the over 50 section in 17m 37 sec from Eamon Murphy in 17m 41 sec.

Trish Lee N Sligo AC  finished 1st in the womens over 50 category in 20m 20 sec and her clubmate Mary Gilmartin finished 2nd in 23m 50 sec.

Steven Finnigan Tireragh won the mens over 60 section in 20m 16 sec.

Gerard Toughy Sligo AC won the junior mens section in 17m 36 sec from the ever improving Shay Davis N Sligo AC 17m 40 sec with Cillian Sprice St Michaels Enniskillen 3rd in 18m 43 sec.Emma Carroll N Sligo AC won the junior girls category in 21m 32 secs her sister Tara Carroll was 2nd in 22m 31 sec and Karen Mulvaney Kelly was 3rd in 22m 54 secs.

The club would like to thank all those who helped with the smooth running of the event and those who brought food etc.A big thank you to Martina  Mullaney of Supervalue who sponsored all the easter eggs and ensured that all funds raised goes to Goal for relief of victims of the earthquake in Syria and Turkey.
