Eamon Murphy and Mari Johnson done Sligo athletics proud when they both
won team medals at the masters cross-country international at Santry demesne on Saturday last. Murphy was part of a 4 man Irish team competing in the over 55 category, running in this 8k race in beautiful weather conditions on this lovely parkland course. The fifty six year old North Sligo runner ran a tremendous race and showed massive determination, strength and stamina as he continually progressed though the field and finished 2nd Irishman on the team to the great Padraig McKinney who won the category outright beating all the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish runners. Mari Johnson was running in the women's over 50 6k race, this teak tough Sligo AC athlete won her place on the Irish team at the international trials in Abbottstown a few weeks ago, she ran with pride and passion on Saturday last and her efforts were rewarded when her team won gold medals. The Irish gold medal winning team over 50 were Annette Kealy, Breda Gaffney, Carmel Crowley and Mari Johnson.
