The 50th anniversary of the Tubbercurry 10k road race took place on St Patricks day in the South Sligo town on Friday last. This popular and well organized race once again drew a large contingent of competitors including many from North Sligo AC.
Eamon McAndrew was the first of the North Sligo crew to finish in 35 min 50secs, Aiden McMoreland finished 5 secs behind him in 35 min 55 sec, Donal Egan was the 3rd club finisher in 36 min 17 sec. Eamon Murphy was a clear winner of the over 50 category in 36 min 58 secs, Alan Wallace had a steady run to finish in 37 min 7 sec. Tommy Kelly finished well in 38 min 8 secs and Leo Donlon finished in 42 min 16 sec.
Valeria Petrova led the womens North Sligo contingent home in 42 min 41 secs, Trish Lee finished in 43 min 49 sec, Aisling Van Rensburg crossed the finish line in 44 min 28 sec, Linda Lally finished in 46 min 42 secs despite suffering from calf cramps, Mary Gilmartin crossed the finish line in 50 min 21 sec and Pamela Hunter clicked the chip at 58 min 21 sec.
John Croghan ran in the 5k and finished in 37 min 1 sec.
The club members are now looking forward to the Good Friday 5k which will be held in Grange on the 7th April at 7pm, Martina Mullaney of Supervalu have agreed to sponsor the event, all funds raised will go to Goal for the victims of the Syria/Turkish earthquake.
